Tara Solidarity Vigil Previous Updates Update 4 th January 2007 19:10 STATEMENT. The Campaign to Save Tara successfully took action to stop illegal
construction work and tree-felling from taking place in the Tara /
Skryne valley on Wednesday 3rd January. Update 2nd November 2006 20:55 The Save Tara Skryne Valley Campaign is calling on all those concerned about this national tragedy to attend The Save Tara Valley Awareness March in Navan on Saturday, 4th November at 2.00pm sharp! The march will start at the old Navan Railway Station. For more information see www.savetaravalley.com Update 11th September 2006 14:15 We would like to thank everybody for the local, national and international response to the call for solidarity made on Thursday 7 th September (the full moon), when the P.O.W. asked us to move the vigil by Friday 8 th September. As of yet, they have not returned to inform us that they are making a complaint to the Gardai. Our well wishes go to the O.P.W. and other Government bodies who have an unenviable job in these times, sharing the responsibility of managing the future of our Heritage. We are now keeping a daily journal and hope to update the site regularly. We invite people to come to the fire and make a journal entry and welcome any ideas, opinions and input. We are non-affiliated, the fire burns in support of all locals and all branches of the campaign against the destruction of the Valley of the Kings. We are located down past the three mounds of which one is called Rath Grainne. The second location of the symbolic fire is an interesting example of the physical heritage in our landscape. Statement 7 th September 2006 URGENT CALL Today at 5.20 p.m. two men from the OPW came to the fire telling us we had until tomorrow Friday 8 September to leave or they will be forced to get the authorities. They said they are giving us our ‘chance to quit and leave, as you are on a national monument’. We are still waiting for the gardaí to return since the 14 July when they were at the fire, acting on a complaint made by the OPW using the The Housing Bill (miscellaneous provisions) 2002. As we said we would, we moved the location of the fire on Lúnasa, 2 August. The symbolic fire which has been lit since the summer solstice, June 21, still burns. We ask for a show of solidarity at the fire tomorrow and over the next few days and would appreciate for you to pass this on. We also take this opportunity to seek legal advice, help and aid on the situation. Our intentions are to keep the faith of true Irish and European laws, which is very difficult in a society ruled by bullies. This site is under construction. For more information: Call 086 175 8557 |
